Using Technology and Problem Solving to Build Algebraic Reasoning Technology Tools for Thinking and Reasoning about Probability Face-to-face Workshops |
Leadership Development for Technology Integration: The Math Forum @ Drexel has a grant from the National Science Foundation to introduce middle grades teachers to software tools for teaching mathematics from the NSDL (National Science Digital Library). The Math Forum has engaged teachers as collaborators and co-researchers in novel and exciting ways over a dozen years. As an example, you might look at the BRAP Project where teachers worked as educational researchers and co-authored a video-paper that they presented at a workshop at MIT. See also our other summer leadership institutes. Through this new NSDL program we wish to both introduce new technology resources to the broad audience of middle grades mathematics teachers and support those individuals who would like to become leaders in this community, conducting local workshops or offering online support. In the first year of this project, we conducted several face-to-face workshops and we are now offering an online version. Currently the $100 workshop fees are paid for participants by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). All individuals who successfully complete the workshop will receive a certificate indicating that they have completed 15 hours of professional development. This is equivalent to 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that can be received from the Drexel University School of Education for a fee of $25 to cover administrative costs. See the links in the left navigation bar for more information.
